Mixed cropping system with high resource use efficiency 

Mixed cropping is adopted in the farm in a scientific and systematic way to fully utilize land, water & sunlight received in the farm. Intercrops are judiciously selected and planted to provide additional income to the farmer and also to ensure sufficient income even during periods of low price.  The applicant is growing 700 coconut palms, 700 trees of nutmeg, 1500 arecanut palms,  200 pepper vines  and several fruit trees. 

Today Ciby and Sopna  is the custodian of 12 varieties of nutmeg (K1—K12), 6 Varieties  of coconut(WCT, COD, CGD, Kuttiyadi Local, MGD and DXT), 6 varieties  of arecanut (Kasargodan, Mohitnagar, Mangala, Sumangala, Inter C Mangala, VT1) and 30 varieties of pepper(Panniyur1—Panniyur8, Vijay, Thevam, Shubhakara, Sreekara, Thekkan etc). Several varieties of fruit trees including  jack, mango, mangostein, rambuttan, phulasan, orange, lemon, star fruit, rose apple, bread fruit tree, babloos, cashew, custard apple, bear apple, peanut butter fruit,  etc., are grown as inter crop in coconut plantation. Other spices are also cultivated which include turmeric, clove, and cinnamon, pepper, all spices   in addition to nutmeg, which is the major intercrops in the coconut garden.

Keen interest is taken in cultivating substantial quantity  of vegetables in an organic way in his own land Vegetables like brinjal, ladies finger, tomato, green chilly, cow pea, yam, ash gourd etc. are also  grown.
